B3 mejora el Alzheimer

La vitamina B3 muestra efectividad en reducir los déficits cognitivos en la enfermedad de Alzheimer.
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Nov 19 - Nicotinamide reverses the cognitive
deficits in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease, according to a
new report.

Nicotinamide administered for 4 months beginning at 4 months of age
prevented cognitive deficits and improved short-term spatial memory in the
3xTg-AD mice, the authors report in the November 5th issue of The Journal
of Neuroscience.

Nicotinamide did not appear to alter the production of amyloid-beta, but
did reduce the steady state levels of Thr231 phosphorylated tau, which is
associated with microtubule depolymerization.

Treatment with nicotinamide also upregulated proteins associated with
increased microtubule stabilization and upregulated p25, which is linked to
improved learning and memory, the investigators say.
